Content | 5 days later, it is Saturday, August 30, 2014. Jovan and I are still in the hospital. Somehow, we fully healed from Monday’s incident. Our dad called earlier and said he’s going to pick us up today so we’re just waiting for him to come.
“So, how are we going to explain this to Dad?”
Jovan asks while laying in his bed.
“I have no idea.”
I answer while also lying on my bed.
“Well, we have to think of something. He’s not going to believe something like the school fell on us.”
“The school did fall though.”
“Yeah, but we’re the only kids in this hospital. All of the other injured students from our school already checked out.”
“Look, you are focusing way too much on the details.”
“Our dad is all about details! He’s the type of person to say an accurate fact like condoms have a 98.942751% chance of working!”
Jovan yells, feeling anxious. He immediately rises up from his bed.
“No one is that accurate. Anyway, he’s not going to focus on the details this time.”
“How do you know that for sure?”
“Because. Hopefully, he’ll just be happy that we’re okay.”
I confidently answer.
“We’re so screwed.”
Jovan states while nodding his head.
“You need to get yourself mollified.”
“Oh, look at you using big words.”
Jovan points out with a sarcastic tone.
“Shut up. Anyhow, think about it this way. Why would he punish us when we just left the hospital?”
“He will literally punish us after we leave the hospital. We’re literally dead! I can literally see our tombstones outside!”
Jovan panicks. Geez, just what does he see our dad as? He’s even using literally wrong. Suddenly, the phone in our room rings.
“Hello?”
Jovan wonders as he answers the phone.
“Hello.”
“Dad?!”
Jovan says with a surprised voice.
“Yeah, it’s me. I’m just calling to let you know that I’m on my way there. I’ll be there in about 5 minutes.”
“Okay, see you in 20 minutes.”
I quickly reply as I take the phone from Jovan.
“Bye.”
Dad says.
“Bye.”
I hang up the phone. After I do that, I am forced to look at Jovan’s choleric face.
“Why did you take the phone away from me?”
Jovan questions with frustration.
“Because you suck under pressure. Your voice says it all. You wouldn’t even be able to tell Princess Fiona that she’s not ugly.”
“First of all, the only one that can tell Princess Fiona she’s not ugly is Shrek. Second, I don’t suck under pressure.”
“Alright, then let’s test it.”
I get out of my bed and grab a bag.
“Good thing that I had Dad bring this.”
I say as I hold an anime dvd from the bag.
“Watch this and say that you didn’t like it afterwards.”
“Okay, seems easy enough.”
Jovan declares while looking away from me. I swear he is so clear looking. I put the anime dvd in the dvd player and we begin watching the anime. 18 minutes later…
“So what did you think?”
I ask even though I already know the answer.
“Honestly. It wasn’t good.”
Jovan replies.
“Then, why are you smiling?”
I wonder just as I see him smile.
“Because, it was so bad that it made me laugh a little.”
“YOU CAN’T LIE, JOVAN!”
I shout.
“I guess you made your point for now.”
Jovan mockingly admits.
“Guess? You still don’t believe me!”
“Shut the hell up. There are other people in this hospital.”
Jovan quietly adds.
“Excuse me. Could you two please be quiet. There are patients sleeping.”
A nurse demands just when she enters our room.
“Okay.”
We both say, yet Jovan sounds sad when he says it.
“And, your father is here.”
“What?!”
Jovan yells.
“What did I just say.”
The nurse comments.
“Sorry.”
“Anyway, your father is coming up the stairs right now. So. Wait.”
The nurse confirms with an angry tone and exits our room.
“Thanks a lot, Jovan. You made a hot nurse hate us.”
“Did you hear what she just said?! Our dad is coming!”
“HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO BE NOISELESS!”
The nurse yells as she comes into our room again. We didn’t say a word.
“Waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!”
An unknown baby cries. The nurse immediately leaves to assist the baby.
“Damn.”
“I know, right. Who says noiseless?”
Jovan and I add right after she leaves.
“What was that all about?”
Dad wonders and goes in our room.
“Hey, Dad.”
I greet him.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Jovan replies.
“Okay well, are you two ready to go?”
“Yeah, we’re ready.”
I answer. We all walk out of our room and begin to exit the hospital.
“You two exaggerate the smallest things.”
Dad states. We immediately moan afterwards. We leave the hospital and go inside Dad’s car. Dad drives us home. He was silent the entire time while he was driving us home. Now, I'm starting to think we are in trouble. We get out of Dad’s car. I search in my pockets for the key that I don't have.
"You lost your key, right?”
Dad declares.
“Right.”
I say like I'm unsure. Dad gives me a confused look.
“I didn't.”
Jovan uses his key to unlock the door. I stare at him with an obnoxious face as we enter our house. We start to go upstairs to our rooms.
“Wait.”
Dad orders and we stop walking.
“Come with me, downstairs.”
We follow Dad and go downstairs to the basement. We basically go into our “activity room” where there are video games, game consoles, computers, food, and a big TV. I love this basement. I sleep in here more than my own room.
“What, did you get a new video game?”
I wonder.
“No, you dumbass. It’s our punishment.”
Jovan whispers.
“You're still on this.”
I whisper back to him.
“He brought us down here to make sure no one hears us screaming.”
“Do you honestly believe what you just said?”
“What are you two talking about?”
Dad asks, sounding annoyed.
“Nothing.”
I answer.
“Don’t lie to me. It just pisses me off even more.”
Dad confirms.
Out of nowhere, Jovan bows and stands on his knees.
“Please make it quick and painless.”
Dad is dumbfounded. I also bow and go down on my knees. He looks angry.
“What?”
“Look, I know you're mad so let’s get this done and over with.”
“Mad about what?”
Son of a...
“He thought you were going to mad at us because we didn't know how to explain what happened to us.”
I reply as I get up from the floor.
“Jovan, get up.”
Dad demands. Jovan stands up without delay. Dad stares at Jovan as if he is retarded.
“Quit assuming stuff. Oh my…”
“Anyway, why did you bring us down here?”
I ask to stop Dad’s sentence. Now, Jovan looks angry. Dad takes one step to his left. But, we can't see what he’s trying to show us because he's fat. He quickly notices and moves more to the left. We see a high-tech looking door. Dad puts in a code and opens the door.
“Get over yourself, Jovan.”
Dad walks through the high-tech looking door.
“Jovan, calm down.”
“I'm good. Stop staring at me.”
“Oh my bad, I was mesmerized for a sec.”
“Mesmerized by what?”
“Nothing.”
We follow Dad and amble through the door. A light flashes before our eyes as we see a bunch of technological items that we've never even seen before.
“We just went back to the future.”
“Yeah, 3005.”
We comment with a surprised looks. Jovan still sounded a little depressed. When did Dad even do this?! The door behind us automatically closes.
“Jovan, you don't have to explain anything to me. I know what happened at school on Monday.”
Jovan and I are puzzled by his sentence.
“I know you two are very confused about what just happened to you and I will explain all of it.”
So, Dad knows about our superpowers and that Darkseid looking guy who attacked us. Wow, I have to hear this.
“Let me start by saying yes, you two have superpowers.”
“I knew it.”
I joke.
“Javon, you have superspeed and Jovan, you have eyes that give you enhanced combat and reflexes. Now, the person who beat you two is Bane Everbleed.”
Everbleed, he’s russian?
“He came here to get this.”
Dad mentions just as he saunters to another weird looking door that requires a code. He puts in the code and unlocks the door. Behind the door that Dad unlocked is another door that needs a password. Dad types in the password and opens the door. Afterwards, another door stands in front of Dad.
“Uh, Dad, isn't this a bit much?”
I question.
“No, it's just what I need and I'll tell you why in a minute.”
Dad responds as he shows the door his eye. After that, he steps on a strange looking floor mat.
“Weight: close to obese, Age: 37, welcome Tamba Sankoh.”
The door confirms and automatically opens itself. The way the computer identified him was somehow disrespectful.
“Dad, did you create this Ultron-acting door?”
“Javon, why would I create a door that insults me and tries to destroy everything I believe in?”
“You didn't answer the question.”
“No, a friend did it for me.”
That friend must love playing with his insides. We stroll through the door and see a small old fashioned safe. Dad turns the dial on it and cracks the code after some time. He has all of this advanced security and what lies underneath it is one of its ancestors? Inside of the safe is a light blue box. Dad takes it out of the safe.
“Sorry that took so long. This is what Bane came here for.”
“Damn, this thing is bright!”
I note as the box shines blue light in my face. How can this box transmit light?
“Inside of this box is an artifact called the Aquos Crystal.”
Aquos Crystal? I think Everbleed mentioned that during our battle.
“Can we see it?”
Jovan asks out of nowhere.
“Now, you start talking.”
Dad replies.
“We might as well see it since you brought us this far.”
“I only brought you two here so you'd believe everything that I'm about to say.”
“We are going to believe regardless. We got our asses kicked by an alien while finding out that we have superpowers.”
“You may believe it, but that doesn't mean you'll accept it.”
“What does that mean?”
“You might try to run away from the truth.”
“I don't even know what the truth is.”
“Then, let me explain it.”
Jovan starts pouting.
“The Aquos Crystal has the ability to give you a any kind of superpower and it is an unlimited energy source. Meaning, it can you an endless amount of powers.”
Holy shit!
“Our job will be to protect the Aquos Crystal from all enemies.”
“Our job? Hell no, this is not going to be my job.”
Jovan declares with rage.
“Do you have any idea what you're saying? How big of a burden this is? It's 3 people versus an unknown amount of aliens.”
“I know that, however…”
“Then, you know that this is suicide! How could you hide this from us?! We could have died years ago because of you! We could have died Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or today! How could you burden us with something this big?!”
“Jo, calm down. Are you saying you don't accept the challenge?”
I come in between Jovan and Dad even though Dad looked like he was about to say something.
“This isn't a challenge.”
Jovan angrily states.
“You're right. This is a mission.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Don't you see? This is something we have to do. This is our destiny. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have superpowers.”
“No, this is the kind of crap that favors and frustrates the unfortunate.”
“So, you're just going to run away from this.”
Dad says. Jovan is silent. He doesn't know how to respond.
“Javon, why aren't you furious about this?”
Jovan questions.
“Because. This is a never in a lifetime opportunity. I'm going to be living the dream of anime and superhero fans everywhere. I can finally be the Black Flash. You're spouting all of the negatives without thinking about the positives. You're talking about death when you're still alive. I don't even care that Dad was hiding it from us. He still protected us.”
“He didn't protect us on Monday.”
“It was completely unexpected. I've had the Aquos Crystal for 15 years and Monday was the first time they came for it.”
Dad adds.
“Jovan, I know I'm asking for a lot, still Javon is right. This is something we have to do. And, I can't do it without you. I also know that Monday was the first time you were aware of the fact that you were using your powers.”
Why did he say it like that?
“Don't worry, school has been closed for a month. In that month, I will train you two to control your powers.”
“So Jo, what do you say?”
I ask as I hold my hand out to him.
“I say… I'm in.”
We smile and slap each other's hand. This is going to be awesome. I'm actually going to be a superhero. Only words can express how I feel right now. I wonder when the anime elements will kick in. We get out of Dad’s secret room and hang out in the basement.
“Okay, training starts tomorrow. Jovan, you might start today.”
“ Why?”
“Your eyes have been blue ever since you got up from your knees.”
Dad answers.
“Seriously?!”
How did he not notice? They are his own eyes.
“Wait, is this why you were staring at me earlier? You were mesmerized by my eyes.”
“You make it sound gay.”
“Cause it is gay.”
Jovan’s eyes finally revert back to normal.
“Your eyes are back to normal.”
“I know.”
“You know when your eyes are normal, but not when they are blue.”
“I guess.”
I pretend to search around the basement.
“What are you looking for?”
“LOGIC! Where is the logic in that?!”
“I don't know.”
“Don’t you see differently when your eyes are blue?”
“Yeah.”
“So how did you not notice your eyes were blue?!”
“It’s not like I intended to activate my power.”
“It doesn’t matter if you intended to or not. You need to control it as soon as possible. It’s going to be a problem if people see you changing your eye color. People will absolutely think something is wrong with you. They might think you are an alien in disguise.”
Dad comments and I giggle a bit.
“Not funny.”
“From your ears.”
“Shut up, Javon. Now that I think about it, how did Bane know that we had superpowers?”
“He most likely has technology that identifies you. In fact, I'm sure he does. Were you two the only ones that could see him?”
“Yeah, it was so embarrassing. We looked like idiots.”
“Then, he has technology that makes himself invisible to humans. He definitely came here prepared. I've never seen technology like that before.”
“What chance do we have, then?”
I ask, sounding worried.
“After the training, you'll be able to beat Bane together. Do you two feel like eating something right now?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah, let's eat.”
Jovan and I agree.
“Is pizza okay?”
“It’s okay.”
We both respond.
“Alright, I'll order the pizza.”
Dad gets his phone and calls Domino's Pizza. The next day, Jovan and I wake up early in the morning. We go down to the basement only to see our dad asleep.
“Dammit, I knew he would be asleep.”
I confirm. Jovan tries shaking him, yet it doesn't work.
“Dad. Dad. Dad.”
Jovan repeats.
“Yes.”
Dad says, half asleep.
“Can we please start training?”
“Sure, just give me 20 minutes.”
Dad immediately goes back to sleep.
“We have no choice, but to wait for him. His hibernation isn't finished yet.”
I start to go up the stairs and back to my room.
“Hibernation isn't all year.”
Jovan continues to tap him until he wakes up.
“Can you please let me sleep a little longer?”
“Alright.”
Jovan goes back to his room and Dad goes back to sleep. 1 hour later…
“Welcome to the Training Room.”
Dad introduces us to a brand new room in the basement. We are speechless. It has several exercising machines that I'm pretty sure wasn't created on Earth along with normal machines like a treadmill.
“How is he still fat when he has this room?!”
We both thought in our head.
“Let me give you a tour.” |
