Title | Twins 99 Volume 1 – How Heroes Start Chapter 2: Fighting the Darkseid Looking Man |
Content | I can't believe this! We actually have superpowers! Which means...
We ARE supposed to defeat this guy.
"Jo, you know what this means right?"
"Yeah, this is the life changing event."
"Well, that and you just lost."
I say to the Darkseid looking man.
"You're pretty cocky for someone who just found out he had powers."
"So what? I decided that’s the type of MC I want to be."
"Whatever, just tell me where the."
"Sorry, I don't speak English in the middle of a battle."
I interrupt his sentence. I have to look cool in front of my fans. Alright, how does my superspeed work? I start running towards him. I think I feel something. As I get closer to him, nothing happens. Everything is moving fast. The blue skinned man slowly puts down his gun while I’m running at him.
"Alright, it's over."
I stubbornly declare. Still, I run at a normal speed.
"TAKE THIS!"
I punch him and it embarrassingly has no effect.
"Wow."
The Darkseid looking man disappointingly replies.
“That poor boy.”
“He must have a mental disability.”
“He looked so proud doing it too.”
“He can dream.”
Citizens comment as they also look discouraged just as they see me strike air. Really, I can't use superspeed! That's like the easiest power for first timers!
He simply grabs my arm and throws me into the debris.
"I guess it's my turn."
Jovan confirms just as he begins dashing to the Darkseid looking man.
“How did this one avoid my blast?”
He wonders in his mind. He picks up his gun and shoots small energy blasts at Jovan.
“I see things differently.”
Jovan observes as he swiftly dodges all of his blasts and continues to run at him.
“Now, I get it. His power is…”
The Darkseid looking man puts down his gun and tries to punch him. Jovan quickly moves past his punch.
“Enhanced reflexes.”
Jovan elbows his stomach as well as knee his chin. The Darkseid looking man steps back a bit.
“When did Jovan become Batwing?”
I question even as I get back up.
“Hmm, it seems you also have enhanced combat.”
The Darkseid looking man guarantees.
“It must be those eyes. Alright, you caught my interest. Let’s see what you got.”
He rushes to Jovan and attempts to strike him again. Jovan avoids his punch and hits him back. It doesn’t affect him as he continuously aims to smash Jovan.
“How am I doing this?”
Jovan asks himself while he persistently evades his attacks. They continued at this for a while.
“Is he dancing?”
“He isn’t very good at it.”
“He can dream.”
Civilians mention while looking at Jovan.
“Wow, I feel like I can dodge this guy forever.”
Until, Jovan gets bashed in his face. He lands hard on the ground.
Alright, let’s try this again. I rush toward the Darkseid looking man. I attempt to punch him multiple times. He avoids them all with ease. However, I continue to throw punches at him.
“You really don’t know when to give up.”
The blue skinned guy says while he continues evading me.
“How can I when I just started.”
I arrogantly declare.
Jovan comes back and tries to pummel him from behind. The Darkseid looking man grabs the both of us and slams us rough into the ground. He creates 2 craters with us in them.
“How are they magically falling on the ground?”
“I don’t know, but they are hurting themselves.”
“Maybe, they are masochists.”
“That’s probably it. Who takes that kind of pain with a smile on their face.”
“They can dream.”
Townspeople declare as they see us slammed into the ground.
Uhhhhhh, this is bullshit! How does it even look like that?! If anything, it looks we're getting beat up by an INVISIBLE guy, but these people think like people and act like damsels unaware of distresses. Whatever, I don’t care what they think. Their commentary just tells me they are MINOR CHARACTERS. Damn, that hurt. Jovan speedily stands up and strives to hit the Darkseid looking man. He just stands there and assumes that it won’t hurt.
Instead, Jovan spins around him, grabs a rock, and smashes it on the back of his head.
The blue skinned man immediately turns around to pound him. Jovan barely dodges his fist, which makes the Darkseid looking man clobber the ground.
I rise up and commence repeatedly punching his back while Jovan constantly hits his stomach. It has no effect on him.
He easily grabs our arms and squeezes them.
“Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.”
We scream in pain.
“Why are they yelling?!”
“It’s apart of their act!”
“Yeah, you can tell because their singing is in sync!”
“They can dream.”
Burghers remark even as we shout.
“Shut up!”
I respond with displeasure.
The blue skinned man quickly tosses Jovan through the school, which causes some of the school to fall on him and creates more rubble. Many staff and students of Porcupine High School get injured in the process. The people that were commenting on our battle quickly leave the scene.
“Enough games. Tell me where the Aquos Crystal is.”
The Darkseid looking man demands.
Aquos Crystal? So, that’s what he’s here for. Guess I gotta stall him.
“Over my dead body.”
“That’s fine. You're not the only person I can ask."
He hurls me towards a building across from the school and walks to an individual.
"Tell me where the Aquos Crystal is."
"Am I hearing things? What is going on?!"
The person questions as he is very nervous and puzzled.
"I forgot people with no abilities can't see me. I'll have to force it out of those twins."
The blue colored man saunters to Porcupine High School.
Jovan rises from the detritus and charges at him.
They then engage in hand to hand combat. Jovan dodges and counters while the Darkseid looking man takes his hits with his hands and attempts punches.
"It doesn’t matter how I'm doing this as long as it's working."
Jovan believes in his head.
"I can tell by his movements that his eyes are doing all of the work."
The Darkseid looking man confirms in his mind.
They continue at this for a while till Jovan begins to have trouble dodging him.
"Shit, why am I slowing down?"
"I knew it. His eyes are too much for him. Oh well, that makes things easier for me."
The blue colored man effortlessly punches him to a moving car which causes the car to crash into a tree.
The driver hastily gets out of the car and runs away while looking horrified.
"Damn it."
Jovan's eyes go back to normal and he faints.
I eventually get out of the building and the Darkseid looking man ambles to me.
"It's obvious that you can't defeat me so tell me where the Aquos Crystal is."
I begin to realize what's happening around us. Ambulances are arriving to take the injured teachers and students to the hospital. Workers are also clearing the building that I got thrown into. All of the streets around Porcupine High School are filled with traffic. Citizens are frightened and confused because they don’t know what’s happening. Some of them are even running away from this district. All they see is that we're causing damage to this area. It’s hard to believe that this all happened because of this Dark
“STOP IT!”
“PLEASE!”
“THIS ACT HAS GONE TOO FAR?!”
“WHAT IS GOING ON?!!”
All of the townspeople yell at me with frustration. I can’t blame them. They don’t know what to believe. The teachers and staff are still evacuating the students out of the school. I spot Jordan as he leaves the school. He also sees me and starts running towards me.
“Dude, what are you doing? Come with us.”
Jordan orders, looking worried.
“Sorry, I can’t do that.”
“The hell are you talking about?”
“I know you didn’t forget about me.”
The Darkseid looking man intrudes and pounds Javon to the ground. It immediately creates a small crater before Jordan.
“Javon, right now is not the time to play masochism.”
Jordan frighteningly says.
“Wow, he really thinks you did that by yourself. I swear humans are so dense.”
The Darkseid looking man states to Javon.
“Well, there’s only one way to make him believe.”
He declares while walking to Jordan.
“Excuse me, I need you to be over here.”
An unknown woman demands as she walks over to us.
“Yes.”
Jordan obediently responds. He automatically marches to the other students and teachers.
“Why don’t you stand still for a bit.”
The unknown woman commands and the Darkseid looking man unexpectedly follows her order.
“Uh, who are you?”
I ask after I rise back up.
“The principal of Porcupine High School. So, I have several jobs to do over there. You need to finish your job here.”
She winks at me and leaves after she says that. She’s right. Still, this scenario is something else. It’s up to me. A true superhero helps people even when they are against him. The Darkseid looking man starts walking to me without warning.
“Come on, kid, it’s useless.”
Crap, I have to figure out my superspeed so I can defeat this guy. Focus, I should know where I want to go before I run. The Darkseid looking man begins dashing towards me.
Focus. Focus. Focus. Focus.
Honestly, I hate the fact that it takes effort to use superspeed. But, if that’s what it takes to be the greatest superhero…
THEN, SO BE IT!
Wind swirls as I sprint up to the Darkseid looking man.
He tries to punch me, still in a split second, I run past his arm and hit his face.
The impact causes him to instantly fly past many buildings and into a gigantic construction site.
"Finally got a good punch in.”
I immediately fall unconscious to the ground. However, right before I drop to the floor, I hear someone's voice.
“Sorry, I took so long. I’ll explain everything later.”
Meanwhile, the Darkseid looking man painfully rises up inside the construction site.
“I can't believe that kid actually hurt me.”
“Well, I'm going to do a lot more than he did.”
He looks up and sees a man in the air. The man assertively lands on the ground and makes the earth shake.
“It’s you. Tamba Sankoh.”
The Darkseid looking man walks toward Tamba.
“How do you know me?”
“It’s my mission to know you. My name is Bane Everbleed.”
“I don’t care what your name is.”
Tamba stomps to Bane.
“You know these are the type of times where I’m glad I changed my name.”
“Beating up my sons is unforgivable.”
Tamba infuriatingly states. The ground starts shaking as he walks.
“I don’t plan on begging for forgiveness.”
Tamba and Bane stand towards each other face to face. They punch each other’s fist without warning. It instantly produces an extreme gust of wind and makes ground shatter around them. Tamba easily overpowers him and sends him into the unfinished building and past the door. Bane quickly rises up, still Tamba instantly hits him further into the building and busts through several rooms. As Bane continues to get up, Tamba repeatedly knocks him through walls. Until, Bane unexpectedly dodges Tamba’s punch and uppercuts him up four floors. Then, Bane jumps up to Tamba and smashes him out of the building and into dirt which creates a big hole.
Bane momentarily leaps towards Tamba and tries to punch him. Tamba pounds the ground and uses the dust as a cover. Bane falls into the dust and doesn’t see Tamba anywhere. Tamba instantly strikes Bane from above and takes the both of them underground. They roughly drop to the earth, however they swiftly get back up and start hitting each other. As rocks plummet above them, they exchange blows without even flinching and they barely move their feet. The force of their punches causes the rocks around them to instantly shatter. They continue punching each other for a little while. Tamba unpredictably uppercuts Bane through the earth and out of the ground. After that, Tamba jumps up to the surface.
“My info was right about you. You’re just as strong as it described.”
Bane claims as he slowly rises up.
“Commendations aren’t going to put me in tranquility.”
Tamba furiously declares and jumps towards Bane to pound him into the ground.
“Whatever gives me the Aquos Crystal.”
Bane facetiously says and 2 weird technological looking gloves mysteriously appear in his hands. He easily socks Tamba high into the unfinished building which causes a giant amount of debris and a conveyor system to fall on him. The destruction destroys half of the building and can be seen by everybody near the area. 3 Helicopters even fly towards their location.
“It seems that this man is behind all of the damage caused to this construction site.”
“And he’s doing one hell of a job at it.”
“Why aren’t the police stopping this man?”
The people in the helicopters note.
Tamba slowly rises up and right when he does, Bane punches him into more rubble. But, Tamba quickly grabs an I-beam and blows Bane away with it. Bane flies so high that he clearly sees the helicopters.
“They can’t see me so…”
Bane uses his gloves to shoot blasts at the helicopters.
“Oh my god! We’re getting shot at by air!”
A person in one of the helicopters yells.
“Remember who you are fighting.”
Tamba comments as he jumps up to Bane and immediately pounds him back to the ground before any of the helicopters could get damaged. Bane’s descent creates a gigantic pit in the construction site.
“Did that man save us?”
“Maybe he did?”
“So, he’s fighting air?”
The people in the helicopters ask each other.
When Tamba lands on the ground, Bane aims to strike him with his left hand. Tamba punches his left hand right away. His strength alone causes fragments to Bane’s glove. However, Bane bashes Tamba with his right hand and blasts him back into the building. Then, Bane repeatedly shoots blasts at Tamba. Eventually, a large explosion occurs and destroys the rest of the building. The explosion almost reaches the helicopters.
“Are you done?”
Bane asks Tamba as they are now surrounded by nothing but debris. The entire area is just dirt.
“No.”
Tamba answers and gets back up.
“What’s the point of trying to prevent the inevitable?”
Bane annoyingly wonders.
“To prevent the inevitable.”
Tamba replies with a serious tone.
“It doesn’t work if it’s one sided.”
“That doesn’t mean it can’t become two sided.”
Tamba replies.
“We’ll see about that.”
Several police cars show up at their location.
“Put your hands in the air.”
A black police officer demands as several of them point their guns at Tamba.
“Trust me when I say there is a reason for this.”
Tamba says.
“Good luck with that reason.”
Bane adds as he smashes Tamba into the debris and then runs away.
“What just happened?”
One of the police officers question.
“I guess we beat him.”
The black police officer says as they see an unconscious Tamba.
“Where am I?”
I wonder as I wake up.
“In the hospital.”
I turn left and see Jovan also in a bed. I look around and see the other people who got injured from our incident.
“Oh. Wait, what about the Darkseid looking guy?!”
I try to get out of my bed.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
I scream. My body felt extreme pain. It hurt just to move my arm!
“Calm down. When you were knocked out, I was watching the news and they didn’t report any more destruction.”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!”
“I wanted to see if your struggle was real.”
“I wouldn’t be in here if it wasn’t!”
“So, I guess you didn’t beat the Darkseid looking dude.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Then, that guy is still out there somewhere.”
Jovan confirms while his eyes somehow turn blue.
“Your eyes are blue.”
“They're blue? Oh, well that explains my vision right now.”
“These eyes must be your power.”
“It's more than that. When my eyes are like this, I see things differently and knowledge fills in my head. I see all sorts of options that I could do. My senses are increased. I don't know how else to describe it.”
Jovan says, sounding amazed.
“Damn, sounds like you got a Byakugan. Except, veins don't pop out from the side of your face.”
“These eyes are way different from Byakugan. I can guarantee you that.”
“Alright, man.”
“Anyway, how long did you last after I fell unconscious?”
“Honestly, I didn't last that long. But, I figured out how to use my superspeed.”
“Good. I wonder how we're going to explain all of this to Dad.
“Same here.”
Meanwhile, Tamba wakes up in a cell.
“What the? They really thought I was the threat.”
Tamba says, not sounding surprised.
“Great, Bane escaped and I'm stuck doing the time for his crimes. How come people couldn't see him? He probably had a gadget on him that only allowed superhumans to see him. He assumed that only superhumans know about the Aquos Crystal. And judging by the gloves he used against me, he came prepared. He most likely also has an energy based tracker for the Aquos Crystal.”
A police officer unexpectedly comes to Tamba’s cell and unlocks it.
“You've been bailed out. You can leave the detention center.”
“I expected as much.”
“What does that mean?”
“Don't try to comprehend what you don't understand. You'll live decades longer.”
Tamba purposely says to sound like a jerk. He exits the detention center and surprisingly sees the principal of Porcupine High School waiting for him.
“I thought you were going to handle it.”
The principal jokes.
“All that matters is the city is protected. Can I guarantee that my sons are safe?”
“Interesting answer as always and yes, you can. They are in the hospital. What are you going to do now?”
“What I had always planned to do. This was bound to happen eventually. I just need more time to prepare.”
“So what do you want me to do now?”
“Find Bane and stall him. Since he was the only one that came here, whoever ordered him isn't sure that the Aquos Crystal is here.”
“You're saying that they will eventually think the Aquos Crystal isn't on Earth based on the time he's here.”
“Exactly.”
“Okay, seems simple enough. I'll search around your house on Friday.”
“Friday?”
“I AM the principal after all. After today, I’m going to have a lot of work to do. Plus, this “Bane" character isn't going to immediately go to your house if you’re waiting for him. He's going to strike when you least expect him to.”
“Good point, I guess I'll go home.”
Tamba agrees.
“You don't want to pick up your sons?”
“No, I'll let them recover. They went through a lot in one day. I'll pick them up after you finished searching for Bane.”
“You're going to tell them everything.”
“Just the jist of it.
Tamba replies while going inside the principal’s car.
“I thought you didn't want to pick up your sons.”
“I have to pick up my sons to get a ride home.”
The principal expectedly goes inside the car and drives away from the detention center. At the same time, several cops are inspecting the scene of Javon and Jovan’s fight with Bane.
“Commissioner Ivy, we found something.”
The black police officer confirms as they spot a weird looking gun. A police woman walks over to them and sees it.
“What is this?”
She asks herself. She stares at it and all of the sudden, she faints.
“Commissioner Ivy, are you okay?!”
“I'm fine. Bring it in the police station.”
She orders as she quickly recovers. Some of the police officers pick up the gun and put it in a police car. |
